Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA)

We are excited to announce that Wellfield Middle School is committed to achieving the nationally recognised Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA) within the next twelve months. This award seeks in large part to strengthen home-school links, communication and parental participation.

We want the age-old conversation of ‘what did you do at school today?’ to end with an answer that isn’t ‘nothing’ as we believe that it is essential that parents and carers understand, and are fully involved in, their children’s learning and development. Wellfield students are never prouder than when showing you their work at a Book Look or performing to a whole audience of parents, carers and grandparents at a Musical Extravaganza or curriculum evening. Children most enjoy learning and take pride in their work when parents and carers are involved. It is because of this, that we think our journey towards achieving the LPPA is an exciting one.

There are many benefits of increased parental involvement and improved home-school links when it comes to a student’s learning:

• It is easier for a child to learn when they are encouraged at home. They are more likely to be motivated learners.
• Evidence has shown that students perform better and achieve more when their parents or carers are involved.
• Children get access to more activities in and out of school when there are more adults to help.
• Student and parents’ concerns can be sorted out more quickly when parents and carers have a positive relationship with school staff.
• Parents can build their own confidence in supporting their children’s learning.

We know that we are extremely lucky to have parents who are already so involved in their children’s learning. We hope that you will continue to support us as we begin to hold more parent forums, ask for your feedback more often, hold ‘joint student-parent classes’ in subjects such as coding and cooking…and much more!
