Lockdown: Children working from home

Lockdown: Children working from home

6th January 2021

Dear Parents/Carers of Remote Learners

Following this week’s Government announcement regarding school closures for all but critical workers’ children and vulnerable learners I would like to communicate some operational information which I hope will help you steer through this current situation.

All pupils will continue to be taught through Google Classroom.  Fortunately, we adopted this approach from March last year and we expect the majority of our pupils to adapt quite quickly to this once again.  However if your child does have any issues please contact either their class teacher or Mrs Stephenson for technical issues on 07538454754 or via email bev.stephenson@wellfieldmiddleschool.org.uk.

Below is a slightly amended version of your child’s usual timetable which will start from Monday 11/1/21.  The changes  will help us to deliver a more consistent approach within each year group whilst staff work with both remote learners and provide support in school.

We recognise that learning from home has its own unique challenges and we continue to work hard on adapting remote learning so that pupils can continue to progress academically in a supportive environment.  With this in mind each form teacher will be hosting a Google Meet form time every morning.  This will establish a routine for each child, prepare them for school work each day and address any issues that may arise with the learning for that day.  Form time will also help students keep in touch with their peers and will also help to alleviate any feelings of isolation and/or anxiety that your child may experience through remote learning.

Form times are as follows:

Year 5 @ 8.45am

Year 6 @ 9am

Year 7 @ 9.15 am

Year 8 @ 9.30am

A member of staff will contact your child at home if they have not attended the Google Meet.  Form time will begin on Friday morning and the invite will be sent from your child’s form teacher.

If your child has not completed their tasks their class/subject teacher will send a reminder and this may require a phone call to establish the reasons behind non completion of work in addition If your child is unwell and unable to complete the work please email their teacher.

Our Be Spirited lessons will continue as with all subjects.  Be Spirited is a personal and social education programme which will help pupils explore any anxieties they may experience with the current situation and support wellbeing throughout this current lockdown period.

Please contact the school immediately if you have any further concerns as experience has shown us that working together between home and school, providing routine and clear expectations supports both parents and pupils through this less than ideal situation.

Many thanks for your continued support.
