Physical Education

Our Objective:

Our objectives are that children progress in, and enjoy competing in sport. A testament to this is that over 85% of all pupils attended an after school club, and over 65% of all pupils represented the school in sporting competitions and festivals over the last year.  Last year, Wellfield had the second highest participation ratings out of the middle schools in North Tyneside. As well as this, our participation from Pupil Premium students is exceptionally high.

Our aim for this year is to promote sport and extracurricular activities for students to take part competitively, as well as for fun. Our target group is to focus on low ability students to take part in some sort of sporting activity. So far this year we have put on a Karate club, Gymnastics club, Fitness club and a Dance club, which have all been non-competitive and aimed at low ability students. There is more information about the impact of our clubs and funding within the 'Funding' section.

We pride ourselves on offering the pupils a variety of sporting opportunities from individual sports to team activities. These include football, netball, uni-hoc, basketball, rounders and cricket. The development of personal skills in gymnastics, tennis, athletics, aerobics and swimming is also encouraged. Inter-class games are organised in a variety of activities with opportunities for all the pupils to take part. Teams participate in local leagues and tournaments and pupils often represent Whitley Bay or North Tyneside. Pupils have access to IPads to help them coach, lead and improve their own performances.

We have a wide ranging extracurricular activity schedule with a very successful Girls Football team, an incredibly popular Netball team and many other activities pupils can participate in. At Wellfield we believe that PE is not just about performance therefore our pupils are assessed in different area, such as leadership, evaluation and decision-making skills. You can see in more detail by following the link below. Follow the other links to find out more or scroll down to see the videos we have produced about PE at Wellfield.

The schools success in football is exceptional, with both boys and girls achieving very high awards in recent seasons.
