Meet the Governors

The governing body of Wellfield Middle School meets 3 times a year, and is responsible for the strategic management of the school and makes decisions about a wide range of issues.  We have 3 committees; Standards, Finance and Staffing, Buildings and Health and Safety who also meet 3 times a year.

The core responsibilities involved are:

  • To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • To hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school, its pupils and the performance management of staff
  • To oversee the financial performance of the school
  • Employer of all school staff, in line with all Trust schools

They also carry out a number of other important duties, which include:

  • Determining how the school's budget is spent
  • The appointing and dismissing of staff
  • Hearing appeals and grievances
  • Forming policy on the school's curriculum
  • Setting standards for pupil's behaviour and discipline
  • Making sure that the school building is welcoming and safe
  • Setting and monitoring the school's aims and policies

Governing Body's Annual Statement

The issues faced and addressed by the Governing Body over the last year were:

  • Strategic review of the leadership of the school following the retirement of the Headteacher in December 2014.
  • Careful budget planning to provide a new library, intervention space and improved sporting facilities for the pupils.
  • Introduction of a class based approach to the curriculum in year 5.
  • Reviewing and evaluating the School Development Plan and Self Evaluation documentation and actions.
  • Oversight of the development of all staff and performance management procedures in school.

Publication of Governor’s Details and Register of Interests

In the interests of transparency, all schools and academies should publish, including on their website, up to date details of the structure of the governing body and any committees, together with the names of their governors and their particular roles and responsibilities within that structure. This information is required for each governor who has served at any point over the past 12 months. They should also publish relevant business and pecuniary interests. This information must be published in a readily accessible form which means that the information should be on a webpage without the need to download or open a separate document.

Schools and academies should also publish an annual statement setting out the key issues that have been faced and addressed by the governing body over the last year, including an assessment of the impact of the governing body on the school.

Governing Body’s Annual Statement

The Issues faced and addressed by the Governing Body over the last year were:

  • Developing an effective Governing Body
  • Change of Headteacher and establishing a new leadership team.
  • Teaching and Learning
  • Pupil Premium Progress
  • Establishing an assessment programme in school

The impact of the Governing Body on the school is becoming increasingly significant. The School is an ambitious school with excellent entry to exit progress data and attainment data that was above national levels in KS2 for most subjects. The transition to a new Headteacher and a new leadership team has been managed well.
