Mathematics

In Mathematics we build on and extend the foundations laid down in our feeder First Schools. All pupils experience algebra, data handling, measurement, shape and space. The emphasis is on numeracy throughout the school.

Tables, practical work, research and testing all combine to make pupils more aware of modern mathematics and the wide use of calculators and computers in society. We have adopted the reviewed framework of the Primary National Strategy in KS2. In KS3 we offer a 2 year condensed Maths Curriculum as well as the more traditional 3 year programme of study. Our mission is to impart an enjoyment of the subject to all our pupils.

Year 7 made sequences using multi link cubes to help them to find the nth term.

Year 6 battled it out to see who could build the structure closest to the given target length. They had to measure, estimate and convert units of length.

Role Reversal !

Year 5 got to play the role of teacher today and mark some multiplication problems that had already been completed. They did a fantastic job of using the school marking policy and leaving comments that would allow their pupils to make progress with their work.

Year 5 and Year 6 have been working hard on their times tables. 5.4 have been trying to answer 10 times tables questions in 5 minutes and have been having success. 6.1 are trying to answer 55 questions in 5 minutes! We are enjoying this and it is helping us to learn our tables. We need to show resilience and keep going to achieve success! Who do you think will be next to get their 10 club certificate?
