Graphic Art and Window Writing

Mrs Bolam led a very popular and creative session, where the writing produced formed an image of what the children wrote about. The cross between art and literacy proved to be a real success and the pieces created very impressive indeed.

Some children braved drawing free hand and others had a little help, but the writing was all original.

 

Miss McElderry led a writing session that provided lots of warm up activities to get the children writing freely. Speed writing on various topics started the session, one minute short bursts on whiteboards proved successful. Children thrived on the challenge of improving the amount of writing each time and an impressive amount was achieved.

Group tasks involved writing an A-Z of descriptive words about windows - as this would be the medium to display their final pieces. Another was a team challenge to write as many synonmns for the word `went` as possible in a set amount of time. 

 

One team surpassed all expectations with a staggering 111 words.

Here are a small selection of the words... walked, ran, sprinted, scooted, skated, hurdled, creeped, struted, stomped, sauntered, moped, crawled, sludged, danced, skipped, hopped...

 

Some even demonstated to the class what the words meant and how they could improve a piece of writing by providing a better picture for the reader of a character's mood/thoughts/situation.
