Pupils in year 7 have been programming Lego NXT robots to complete a range of challenges. Working in teams of 4 with specialist programs they used a variety of motors, levers and arms to control their robotic creations. Teamwork was definitely required and a great deal of resilience. They worked super hard. A superb day 7H!
Year 8 have been using AppShed to create Apps. Using a Google Form on the iPad children peer checked each other's work. Feedback was then emailed back to children using a Google Add-on.
Working in pairs children wrote explanations on how to create a terrain in Kodu and how to add and program a character. Key skills involved listening to each other and patience as they tried to agree on their explanations.
8B were the first to try out the new Raspberry Pi computers. As the photographs show everyone was extremely focused and several managed to get the LED blinking. Very impressive.
Some of our Year 8 classes have been working with Raspberry Pis this week.
They have been using Scratch and Python to create LED Light Shows.
Hour of Code
This week all children will take part in an Hour of Code within their ICT lessons.
They will have access to a variety of hour-long tutorials to try out the basics of computer science.
Iproject is a club set up by Mrs Heslop and two Year 8 students Lola Endean and Rachel Quinn. It is a 6 week course for 8 students in year 5 and 6 and in this time they will make a short movie using iMovie software. The best film will be shown in KS2 assembly.
Some of our Year 8 children have been working with Newcastle University students on the Arduino project.

Apple store visit
Some of our Year 6 children visited the Apple store at Metro Centre. They filmed a short tour of our school and enjoyed finding out how to edit this using iMovie.
